An initial necklace, like all personalised initial jewellery, is a good way to express your identity. We love layering initial necklaces with our other pendants to make a personal statement. At Camile & Stone, we have a lot of necklaces to choose from for everyday wear, and we have them in sterling silver and yellow gold.
Below, we'll give you some hints for styling your custom initial necklace for an elegant everyday look.
The first thing to do when browsing initial pendants is to make sure you find your style. Don't choose a rose gold initial necklace if you never wear rose gold!
We recommend choosing the metal for your letter necklace based on the colour you wear most. If this is silver, choose sterling silver, and so on.
The other thing to think about with initial jewellery is what style is most appropriate. For instance, if you work in a job where you're moving around a lot, a necklace might get caught. You could consider other letter jewellery in this case.
On top of this, think about the letter itself. Do you want a small charm? Do you want room to add a personal message? We have lots of options including small and dainty letters as well as bigger styles.
Next, think about layering your initial jewellery.
A good rule of thumb for layering is to make sure you have necklaces of different lengths. Add a plain chain, like this box chain necklace, with a letter necklace. You could also add in a pearl necklace or other beaded style for something a bit different.
With layering, you might find you want to mix your silver initial necklace with other colours. You could have an 18K rose gold necklace you love that you want to pair with your sterling silver pieces. Now, we know that everyone says you can't mix colours, but why not? Pairing rose gold and silver looks lovely, and we highly recommend it.
Different necklines can impact an initial necklace. For instance, if you've got a plunging neckline, a shorter chain might not work as well. It could look more dramatic if you add a statement necklace with a chain that sits lower down.
On the other hand, if you really want to wear your initial jewellery, we've got a solution. Layering! Add your initial jewellery with chains of longer lengths to create a sort of cascading look to fill the plunge.
If you decide on the one statement piece, that doesn't mean you can't wear any initial jewellery. There's other types of jewellery with letters on them, like these initial studs, or this initial ring. What we're saying is you can still add a touch of your identity even with a plunging neckline.
Other necklines where you might want to swap out your necklaces include Grecian necklines, Sabrina styles, and asymmetric and halter styles. These styles might mean the necklace gets lost. To avoid this, choose a ring, or bracelet with your initial on it to add that identity piece in a new way,
We think initial pieces are the perfect personal touch to your outfit. But how do you make them into a statement? There's a few ways.
First, consider something a little bit different. Our padlock letter charm necklace is a unique way to wear letter jewellery and will certainly make a statement. Remember, statements don't always need to be huge!
You could also go one step further from a letter, and get an engraved name piece. Our engraved bar and pillar bar styles offer something truly different that can make you stand out. You can layer it with a plainer chain or another charm, like this love heart style.
We also have our sideways letter necklaces which are much bigger and are certain to stand out. We even like to add two necklaces, perhaps your initials and a partner's, or your first and surname. This would add something very dramatic to your outfit.
Another more statement-y piece we have is our initial necklace on a herringbone chain. It features a sapphire inlaid charm and a much thicker chain. This piece can be worn on its own, perhaps over a black, high-neck top to add something dramatic to a sophisticated look. In addition, this is a great piece for layering with more delicate and subtle pieces for a textured look.
Remember your statement doesn't need to scream, and can just be something a little bit different that people will notice.
Initial necklaces are often given by a family member or bought for a significant milestone. This means you want to be able to cherish it forever. So, how do you do that?
Well, first, we always remind you to take your necklace off before bed. Don't sleep in jewellery and don't wash in it either. Even the best pieces can get damaged, so don't risk it. We also extend this to going to the gym and doing other vigorous activities.
Always buy from quality suppliers (like us!!!), and make sure to buy jewellery in good metals, like sterling silver and gold. Exposure to water shouldn't damage these pieces but we still say to keep any exposure to a minimum.
Cleaning your jewellery is also important. Most pieces (when made of good quality metal) can be gently cleaned with warm soapy water. You can also get specific metal cleaners for pieces that need more attention. Of course, take it to a jeweller if you're not sure!
Initial jewellery is a fantastic addition to your beautiful collection. With bracelets, rings, necklaces, and more, you've got lots of choices for self-expression here too.
Initial necklaces can be layered and can be worn with lots of necklines. They work for everyday wear, but as we showed above, can also be worn as a statement for special occasions. We love the versatility of letter necklaces and you should too!
